Why a closed set keeps the frame rate up

🔒No surprises on stageAuto-VJ and the scene rotation stay inside the set, the other tiles are greyed out, and a two-tap exit protects you from a wrong touch.

Audio

Without audio, shaders get a simulated beat.

Any of the 691 library shaders, one of your dock imports, or a picture (file, drag & drop or paste): the picture becomes a shader too, with zoom / wave / pixelate / colour knobs and code you can rewrite.

A module that is off is not in the code at all. A pad that needs one switches it on when you assign it.

Selected object

Click an object in the scene to select it: a red box surrounds it and X / Y / Z arrows appear. Drag an arrow to move it along that axis, the white dot (or the object itself) to slide it on the floor, arrow keys to nudge it. Adding the same shape or model again puts the copy right next to the previous one. Count + layout turn one object into a ring, a line, a grid or a cloud of copies — behaviours then play on every copy.

From first test to your own live set

Four steps: explore and test everything the engine can do — native backgrounds, effect palettes, webcam FX, hundreds of shaders and your texts — then let it play, prepare your own live set and take it on stage.

Step 1Explore & test everythingFind the backgrounds, effects and shaders that fit your music.

1 · Backgrounds & scenesLeft column: choose a Background, a webcam FX, find interactive scenes driven by the pads, standalone webcam scenes, and the Import section with every shader you add from the Shaders page.

2 · Test the effects by hand16 pads → one palette of effects. Browse the seven palettes with ‹ ›. The keys A Z E R T Y U I / Q S D G / W X C V play the 16 pads on display (change palette, the keys follow), and a USB MIDI pad works as soon as it is plugged in.

3 · Pad-reactive scenesHomemade 3D scenes with specific interactive effects depending on the pad.

4 · Webcam FXDock → Webcam FX: eleven looks that track your hands, face and body and layer on top of any background. Choose any visual from Ebiza or add a shader from the Shader List.

5 · Shaders page: hundreds of ready-made visualsShaders tab at the top of this page: 691 shaders — find the vibe you need for your set.

6 · Your texts on screenRight panel → TEXT: write up to 3 messages, triggered by pads 10-12.

Step 2Let it playAutomation that follows the music.

7 · Reactivity & speedTwo knobs set everything at once: Reactivity (how hard the visuals react to sound, 0 to 200%) and Speed (all animation, 10 to 250%). MIDI-mappable (CC 74 and 71). Under the hood, the analysis runs in a dedicated audio thread: levels and hits per band, presence, BPM-locked oscillators, spectrum — all of it feeds the scenes and the imported shaders.

8 · Auto-VJ & tempoAUTO-VJ chains scenes and effects following the music — calm / build / drop — switches scenes on musical phrases (8 to 16 bars) and also picks from the shaders you added. The top badge = tempo source: mic, Ableton Link (guide below) or your MP3 played by the app (exact track analysis, locked beat grid). The padlock next to the palette name: Auto-VJ only plays the 16 effects on display. Combine it with your own palette (+) and Auto-VJ plays your style — on autopilot.

9 · Playlist: scenes in orderRight panel → Playlist: + Current scene adds the scene on display, each row has its duration in beats and its transition (cut or fade). Changes start on the bar, looping or once. While it plays, Auto-VJ keeps its effects but no longer changes scenes.

Step 3Prepare your live setOnly what you tested and liked — nothing else. Everything happens on the My set page.

10 · Build the setMy set page, step 1. Tick the scenes you validated — native backgrounds, interactive scenes, standalone webcam scenes and the shaders you added to the dock — then the pad palettes Auto-VJ may draw from, and the webcam FX you really need. The set is saved on this device.

11 · Quality profile & soundcheckQuality profile: global render scale, bloom and trails caps — a laptop profile and a phone profile can share the same scenes. ▶ Warm up & soundcheck plays every scene of the set for a few seconds and measures the real frame rate on this device: heavy scenes are flagged and get a reduced render scale, adjustable per scene.

12 · Enter live mode💾 Save set, then Enter live mode: the app reloads with only the assets your set needs (faster start, fewer frame drops), the other tiles are greyed out, Auto-VJ and scene rotation stay inside your set, and the LIVE SET chip shows in the top bar. Leave live mode any time from the same tab.

Step 4On stageScreen, phone, loops.

13 · Phone or PC → screen / TVOn the TV or second screen, open ebiza.app/tv: a code appears. On your control device, 📺 button → type the code. The TV shows only the visuals, full screen, at 60 fps with no latency (it renders by itself, direct P2P); you keep every control. On the TV, 🎤 Mic on this screen = on-the-spot audio analysis. On a PC, 🖥 Output screen opens the visuals window straight onto the HDMI screen. The phone shows the TV status (fps, alerts).

14 · On the phoneFour tabs: Scenes, Pads (banks, 16 pads, Quick Controls), FX (webcam, texts, characters) and Settings (audio, Auto-VJ, playlist, presets, video loop). The preview stays visible above; the handle collapses the panel. 🎤 chip to start the audio, 📺 to connect the TV. Tested on Samsung with DeX: desktop on the TV, controls on the phone.

15 · Video loops & custom backgroundRight panel → Video loop: record 4 / 8 / 16 beats locked to the BPM and export as .webm (Resolume, OBS, VDMX) — then ⬆ Share it to the Community. And the Custom scene now takes your videos as background, not only images.

Enable Ableton Link optional

By default, Ebiza reacts to the mic (Audio Detection mode). For a perfect beat lock from rekordbox or Ableton, enable Link through a small local bridge:

1 · ExplorePick a scene, add a webcam FX, hit the padsThe dock on the left lists 40 scenes, 13 webcam FX and the shaders you add from the library. Hover a tile for a live preview, star your favourites, search by name. The 16 pads (A Z E R T Y U I / Q S D G / W X C V) fire the effects.

2 · Let it playStart the audio, switch Auto-VJ on🎤 Start audio follows your music (mic or line-in), Auto-VJ chains scenes and effects on the musical phrases, and your DJ name can show up every few bars in 3D letters.

Does it need a powerful computer?

No. Every scene has a weight badge (light, medium, heavy) on the My set page, and the soundcheck measures the real frame rate on your device and lowers the quality of heavy scenes by itself. On a modest laptop, keep two or three heavy scenes at most.

How do I get the visuals on the big screen?

On a laptop, drag the browser window to the projector and press F for full screen, or use 🖥 Output screen in the settings. With a phone, open ebiza.app/tv on the TV and type the code shown: the TV renders by itself, with no latency.

Can I use my own images, videos and shaders?

Yes. The Custom and Liquid scenes take your pictures, videos and GIFs, My video plays a clip inside your silhouette, the Shaders page adds hundreds of ready-made visuals to your dock, and you can import your own GLSL or Shadertoy code.

Is it really free?

Yes. No ads, no account wall. The shader library credits every author and keeps every licence.
